Wartime baking!

In our WW2 topic, we have been learning about VE day and the street parties people had to celebrate in May 1945.

We baked some ‘crunchies’ using porridge oats, flour, sugar, baking powder, margarine, golden syrup and vanilla extract. We couldn’t use butter because it would have been rationed during the war. Mrs Clements also brought in some chocolate to drizzle over the top as an extra treat! We had just under our monthly ration of chocolate to spread over 14 biscuits!
