The Ocean Long-Term Plan
General Information
The week is timetabled to provide maths (taught in seperate year groups during the Autumn term) and English in the morning. In the afternoon, we cover the other foundation subjects which are often linked through a topic thread. There is a two-year cycle of plans in place.
Homework is seen as a critical part of the learning in the Ocean Class. Homework is clearly linked to classroom learning. Children have a weekly times table recall homework using Timestables Rockstars – immediate recall of times tables is important for many areas of learning, so gaining fluent recall of these facts is important. This will also support the children in preparation for their Multiplication Check at the end of Year 4. Children are expected to read for at least 15 minutes daily and to record this as part of their homework. Finally, children have a weekly maths homework to complete using LBQ to provide consolidation and application opportunities for maths learning from the learning in the week. In addition, children have a termly project based homework which links to the terms topic work e.g. make a model for a class museum, write some information pages, create a display for an art gallery etc.
PE will be taught on Wednesday and Friday. Children can come to school in their PE kits. This should include appropriate footwear.
If you feel that you, a member of your family or a friend would have something to contribute to any of the topic work please consult the class teacher who is always happy to have input from outside the classroom.
As a church school we place a strong focus on the development of their knowledge of the Christian faith and the appreciation and understanding of other religions. We say grace together at lunchtime and the children take turns to say a prayer to finish the school day.
In the Ocean Classroom follow the whole school behaviour policy; we reward good behaviour! Children are rewarded for excellent work or effort with house points, value stars, maths or writing awards (written by Miss Hastings) or Gold Book awards. Day to day, children might receive positive postcards to highlight particular moments of achievement in school whether academic or personal.
