A free app has launched just in time for the summer. Parents and carers of under-fives in Oxfordshire can now access 50 low and no-cost local activities to help promote early language development.
With information, guidance and supporting resources, parents can build a memory bank of their child’s special moments – from playing in the rain (#29 Pitter Patter), building dens (#33 Home from Home) to making potions (#17 Hocus Pocus Potions).

Children’s early interactions with adults right from birth are vital. These simple ‘to and fro’ conversations form such important foundations and underpin later learning. In Oxfordshire we recognise that being able to communicate effectively supports children’s mental health and wellbeing, their self-confidence and the forming of friendships in the early years. In addition to this, early language skills can be seen as the backbone of children’s later literacy development.
