Fair Trade Workshop

Many thanks to the Coop for sending 2 very friendly ladies to teach us about Fair Trade.  We worked as families to make paper bags which we sold to a shopkeeper.  The shopkeeper paid us for the bags we made.  However, some families were paid 1 rupee for every 10 bags whilst others were paid 2 rupees.  At the end we used our mental maths skills to calculate how much we would earn in a day, and then a week.  Then we worked out how much it would cost for our family to survive.  Only one group, who had been paid fairly for their work, actually earnt enough to survive.  We were shocked and appalled that people would have to work so hard and not be paid fairly.  Thank you for teaching us such an important lesson!
