Last Friday, the school celebrated Black History Month.
People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have been a fundamental part of British history for centuries. It is our role in schools to make sure that this value and contribution to society is not overlooked. Black History Month gives us the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.
This year each class chose a different black hero to explore and celebrate. As part of their learning , they made a short video presentation for the rest of the school. We watched all of the presentations as part of a special Black History Month assembly. The children really enjoyed finding out about their hero and sharing their knowledge.
The heroes chosen were –
- The Meadow – Lenny Henry
- The Woodland – Usain Bolt
- The Ocean – Septimius Severus
- The Mountains – Rosa Parks
Here are some shots of the classes from their virtual assembly.
