Thursday 7th March marks World Book Day 2019 and to celebrate, Monday 4th – Friday 8th March will be our Book Week! There will be a number of things happening this week, as detailed below.
All week: Sponsored reading
Please see the letter below for more information.
This will run from Monday 4th – Monday 11th March. Please bring in completed sponsorship forms and money on the 11th. Each child will be given the opportunity to read for 20 mins during each school day which will contribute towards their sponsored reading time.

Monday: T-shirt decorating
The school will provide the children with a white t-shirt which they will decorate with their favourite book during Book Week (don’t forget to bring the book into school to copy its front cover!). We will provide pens, but if your child would like to bring their own permanent markers, they may. Thanks to all of you who have already paid for the t-shirt using Parent Mail. Your child is invited to wear their decorated t-shirt to school on Thursday for World Book Day!
Tuesday: Pancake race
To celebrate Pancake Day, we will be holding a pancake race at school! This will link to our themed book of the week: Mr Wolf’s Pancakes by Jan Fearnley. If you would like to join us, please arrive on the AstroTurf at the back of school for 2.45pm. The children will compete in one race in their house teams across the playground so we would ask that you spectate and cheer from tarmac path!
You may take your child home after the pancake race. In case of adverse weather, please check the school website for updates.
Wednesday: Pancake making
On Wednesday, the children will be making their own pancakes to eat in school. We will provide the ingredients for the pancakes and some basic toppings, but your child may bring in any other toppings they wish to add to their creation. However, please remember that we are a nut-free school!
Thursday: Book fair and baking
Don’t forget to wear your decorated t-shirts to school today!
Book fair
To mark World Book Day, Bookwagon (https://bookwagon.co.uk/) will be bringing a book fair to the school hall on Thursday afternoon. They will be bringing a selection of books suiting all ranges, the prices for which are below:
- £1: there will be a choice of three books chosen from the 2019 £1 World Book Day titles (these were voted for by the children before Christmas) for which the children can swap their World Book Day token. We will give the children their token on the day so they can exchange it for their chosen book
- £5: all paperback books will cost £5
- £10: all hardback books will cost £10 (there will be a limited selection of these)
The children will attend the book fair during the afternoon. If your child would like to purchase a book, please send in the correct money in a named envelope. The book fair will be open until around 4pm in the hall, so you are welcome to attend after school with your child if you prefer. They will accept card payments.

Baking
If you are planning to participate in our ‘Great British Book Bake-off’ then you will need to deliver your baking to the school hall on Thursday morning. Please make sure that your bake is named. We will display all of the entries in the hall and the children will have a chance to visit them during the afternoon. You are very welcome to come and admire the baking at the end of the school day when you collect your child. There will be a fun element of competition to this event with a single prize being awarded for the most original idea! You are welcome to collect your entry on Friday or we will send it home with your child.
We hope this will be an enjoyable week for all involved! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
