What makes a good life?
In Mountains Class, we spent this afternoon reflecting on what makes a good life. We started by considering what humans valued the most – agreeing that kindness would be a critical value. We use our Good Shepherd eyes to look at a video depicting the power of a chain of kindness, as well as a Spike Milligan poem about smiles being contagious. We then used our Good Shepherd hearts to look inside and reflect on how this had made us feel; we were inspired by the simplicity of the acts we had seen and the impact that they had had. Using our Good Shepherd feet, we looked out to see how we could take an action to make a change in our life. A suggestion was made by a member of the class that we should have a circle moment to share a compliment with the person we were stood next to to start our own chain of kindness. We wasted no time in heading outside to complete this fantastic suggestion.
We spent the rest of the lesson reflecting on what each of us viewed as important to include as their own unique definitions of what makes a ‘Good Life’. We added reflections on whether these elements brought us happiness, peace or pleasure.
It was a wonderful afternoon and the children made some deep, personal reflections on what is important to them.
