All of the classes have recently made Christmas clay decorations at some lovely Art Workshops kindly run by the Kingham Arts Charity.
We are asking for a small donation for each decoration that your child has made to bring home, to support a local Parkinson’s charity. This is very important to us as Mr Jones, one of our teaching assistants, has Parkinson’s and he has written a short note below.
‘When Miss Hastings told me that she had the idea of asking for voluntary donations for the children’s handmade Christmas decorations to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, I was touched.
Those of you who have key stage 2 children at the school may know that I had the privilege of speaking at their assembly on Friday. It gave me the opportunity to explain to them about my own Parkinson’s journey, having been diagnosed nearly 13 years ago, and, it will be of no surprise to any of you that being Rollright pupils, they asked some probing but thoughtful questions.
Parkinson’s has been at times a challenge, but I am one of the few very lucky ones who has benefited from successful brain surgery which has slowed the progression of the condition. Add to that the support and understanding I have received from Michelle and my colleagues, it means I can carry on doing the job I love, supporting your children and the school.
Your donation will make a huge difference to my friends in the Parkinson’s community, especially those who haven’t benefited, as I have, from surgery and the wonderful support I receive.
There is still no cure for Parkinson’s but the great work that Parkinson’s UK are doing is hopefully progressing towards something life changing for people who will suffer with this condition in the future. In the meantime, it’s reassuring to know that there are places like the Chipping Norton café to have a cuppa, a natter and even the odd session of yoga thrown in! Claire, who does a fine job running the café, is very grateful that the café will benefit from the children’s fine handiwork, as will those that attend too.
