On Monday 10th November, Ocean and Mountain class were treated to a special drama workshop from Chipping Norton Theatre to learn about the art form of pantomime. Each class began by hearing about what a pantomime is and its key features, such as the pantomime dame, silly jokes, and special “wow” moments.
We then learned about using large gestures. We started with everyday actions, such as brushing our teeth, and practised making these bigger and more exaggerated with our partners.
Next, we worked on voice skills. We were given real lines from this year’s pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, and worked in small groups to read them aloud and emphasise key moments.
Finally, we discussed exciting “changeover” moments in traditional pantomimes, such as the beanstalk growing or Cinderella’s clothes transforming into a magical gown. We worked in small groups to create freeze-frame changeover scenes, accompanied by exciting music and costumes.
