Black History Month was introduced in 1987 and is celebrated each year in October. It aims to remember moments in history and the achievements black people have made in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
This year’s theme for Black History Month is “Reclaiming Narratives”. In the past, people didn’t always give credit to black people for their contributions to art, writing, sports, business, politics and many other things.
This year, we are learning more about these important achievements and telling the stories that haven’t always been told. It’s time to celebrate the incredible things black people have done in the UK and all around the world!
We want our children to learn that respecting everyone and understanding that we are all different is a very important lesson for life.
In our sharing assembly, each class perfomed a poem by a black poet. It was great fun and a lovely way to celebrate some amazing poetry.
