Over this half term, we have been extremely blessed to have an extra member of the team – Mrs Ali. She has been working with us as part of a project from Chance to Shine Cricket. To add to our Celebration of Faith Homework, we invited Mrs Ali to share an assembly with us on her faith. Mrs Ali shared that she was a Muslim, and she talked about the 4 pillars of Islam: Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting), and Hajj (pilgrimage). She talked about how prayer is involved in her daily life. She also shared that she had just finished an important Muslim festival, Ramadan, by celebrating Eid with her family. She had brought a special copy of texts from the Qur’an in poem form. We were then given a chance to ask questions – which was a fantastic opportunity to develop aspects of our RE learning and see how the apply to a practicing Muslim. The children discovered that she was a Sunni Muslim, had a maroon prayer mat, has not completed a pilgrimage yet – though she wants to, among many other things. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Ali’s generosity, and will really miss her presence in school.
