Some of the Christian teaching about Harvest is reflected in our school values of Love, Respect, Truth and Courage. The Year six children spoke about this at our Harvest service on the 10th October 2025.
Harvest is the time when we celebrate all the good food that God gives us which farmers have grown and gathered. For hundreds of years, people have joined together in churches at this time of year to say thank you to God for food, for creation, and for one another.
Harvest reminds us of God’s love. The Bible tells us that God made the world and called it “good.” Every seed, every crop, every person is part of His loving creation. When we enjoy food, we remember it comes from God’s love for us.
Harvest is about giving thanks, but it is also about showing respect. We respect the earth by taking care of it, because God asked us to be good stewards of creation.
That means not wasting food, not polluting the land, and protecting the animals and plants He made. We also respect the farmers and workers who grow, pick, and prepare the food that arrives on our tables. When we treat food and people with respect, we are living the way God wants us to live.
Sometimes it takes courage to do the right thing. Courage to give when it would be easier to keep things for ourselves. Courage to speak up for people who are hungry or forgotten. Harvest calls us to be brave in helping others and to show kindness, even when it costs us something.
Finally, Harvest reminds us of truth. The truth is that God provides enough for everyone—but we must use His gifts wisely and share fairly. The truth is also that when we live with love, respect, and courage, we bring God’s kingdom closer.
So at Harvest we:
- Give thanks to God,
- Show love for His creation,
- Show respect for others,
- Use courage to share,
- And live in God’s truth.
