On Wednesday, 25th June, The Ocean Class set off for their Bushcraft adventure accompanied by Mr Wallington, Mrs Keene and Miss Hastings.
This year the 2-night camp was held in Badminton Woods and it was over an hour’s journey by coach before the class reached the camping site.
Over the next three days, there were so many activities to enjoy including shelter building, trap setting, whittling and bracelet making, first aid lessons and lots of forest games and free playtime. The children were all awake very early on the first morning but by Friday no one was out of their tent before the 7.00am call!
There was an endless amount of camp food to enjoy, including burgers cooked on open fires built by the children, pizzas made in the forest ovens and delicious curries and pasta.
On one evening, there was the chance to enjoy making s’mores over the camp fire and the children also enjoyed singing a range of camp fire songs.
Highlights included having the chance to apply camouflage paints and hide in the forest, watching a salmon being prepared and carrying out a rescue mission for the teachers who foolishly crashed their light aircraft in the woods nearby.
It was a wonderful trip and the children behaved brilliantly. Everyone gave their best to every opportunity and many coped really well with the inevitable moments of homesickness. We were very proud of each and every child and are delighted that they found so much fun and learning outside of the classroom.
A huge thanks goes to Mr Wallington and Mrs Keene who gave their own time to enable this trip to take place and to the Bushcraft team who worked so hard to make sure that everyone had a really great experience.
