We began Anti-Bullying Week with something which is becoming a tradition – Odd Sock Day! It was lovely to see so many children joining in with this simple activity, which made the point that we are all different. Over the week, a range of activities took place in each class.
The Meadow
We discussed how our odd socks show we are all different and equally special. We coloured and painted paper socks to make a garland and sang songs about kindness before we painted our hands to make our anti-bullying pledge.
The Woodland
Our activities were thinking about how people can be bullied for being seen as different. We thought about what was great about our differences and celebrated them. We then thought about being kind to ourselves, why that is important and wrote down things that we could do to care for ourselves (read a book, play outside, take a nap, watch a tv show). We made a self care envelope to put them in.
The Ocean
In Ocean class, we discussed the difference between respectful and disrespectful behaviour. The children were given different scenarios to act out and they had to role play how that scenario might look if acted out respectfully or disrespectfully. We also made ‘Choose Respect’ posters.
Mountains
The Mountains explored a world where respect and kindness thrives and they learned it’s in the choices they make. They discussed pledges they could make to support this kind of world.
