On Thursday 5th June, we were delighted to welcome Amber and Samantha from Arty Hanns, a community art project focusing on homelessness education in Oxfordshire primary schools. They visited The Mountains Class to share a personal story of homelessness and hope.
The children heard the story of a girl called Hannah who had lots of dreams when she was young but then found herself homeless and in need of help. The children reflected on the invaluable work which happens in homeless shelters and how people can be helped to find their way back to happiness. There was a chance to colour in pictures of their individual hopes for the future and every child received a goody bag to remind them of the important messages from the workshop. Some of the children’s artwork may also go on to be used to decorate collection boxes for shelter donations all over the county.
We will be thinking of ways that we can support the charities which work with people experiencing homelessness over the coming weeks. If you have any ideas for fundraising please let us know.
