Last term, KS1 enjoyed an exciting visit to the Rollright Stones as part of their History learning about local historical places.
Our visit began with learning about just how old the stones are. The children had great fun walking down a timeline to travel back through history and discover when the stones were built. We then practised counting the Rollright Stones and were amazed to learn about the local legend that says the stones are actually uncountable!
As we explored the site, we discussed why people might have built the stones and what they may have been used for in the past. The children shared lots of thoughtful ideas and enjoyed imagining what life was like thousands of years ago.
We also visited the King’s Stone and listened to the famous story of the King and his men, bringing local history and folklore to life. Seeing the stones up close helped the children make meaningful connections with their learning and sparked plenty of curiosity and discussion.
It was a wonderful opportunity to learn outdoors, explore an important local historical site, and experience history first-hand. KS1 had a fantastic day and returned to school with lots of new knowledge and exciting memories.
